David Tully

David C. Tully, Sr., July 25, 1944 - March 18, 2022

David C. Tully, 77, of Pewaukee, WI passed away on March 18, 2022, at Angels Grace hospice in Oconomowoc, following a brief battle with cancer. David was born on July 25, 1944 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to loving parents James E. Tully Jr. and Merle Tully (née Newberry). David was the younger twin to brother Dennis, who came into the world a mere 7 minutes before Dave; a fact that Dennis would not let him forget throughout his life. The twin brothers were best friends and shared a love of 1950’s Rock and Roll. They also spent much time together, along with the whole family, at the Newberry/Tully house on Powers Lake, where they enjoyed fishing, boating, and extended family gatherings. David attended primary school in Kenosha and St. Catherine's High School in Racine. At age 17, David enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1961-64, including 2 years active duty in West Germany. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, David worked for Wisconsin Telephone for 5 years, before attending Western Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelor of Education degree. While in Kalamazoo, he met and married Sandra Tully (née Miranda).  They relocated to the Buffalo N.Y. area, where David earned his master’s degree in Occupational Education from State University of New York at Buffalo, while concurrently working for the Hopevale Union Free School District in Hamburg, N.Y. There, David helped develop the Business and Marketing Education department from 1973-76. In the fall of 1976, David joined the faculty of Waukesha County Technical College, where he taught courses in Marketing and Business Law and inspired countless students during his 30-year tenure. He also created and implemented in 1996 one of the first ever fully on-line business courses in the State of Wisconsin.  After his retirement from WCTC in 2006, Dave volunteered at Old St. Mary Catholic Church in Milwaukee for the next 11 years, serving as Sacristan and Liturgy Assistant. While there, he met Mary Ann Davidowski (née McAdams), and the two of them served the local parishes together, until both retired from their posts in 2017-18. David and Mary Ann spent the last several years together, enjoying one another’s company, traveling, and sharing in life’s adventures. Dave was an avid and enthusiastic traveler throughout his life, visiting most countries in Europe as well as Russia, China, and India.  David also harnessed his lifelong interest in genealogy, and his unrelenting research contributed enormously to the extensive Tully family tree within Ancestry.com.  As family gatherings where such an important part of David’s life, sharing a meal always prompted his favorite and most frequent Tully family saying: “It’s so nice to be with the ones you love.”

David is survived by twin brother Dennis (Betty) of Burlington, significant other Mary Ann Davidowski of Pewaukee, sons David (Susan) Tully of Danville, CA., and Michael (Linden) Tully of Lincoln, NE. He also leaves behind four loving grandchildren, twins Charles and Emily (17), Julia (12), Graham (8).

David was preceded in death by his father James, mother Merle, and older brother Daniel.

Services will be held on Saturday April 9, 2022, at Old St. Mary Parish, 844 N Broadway, Milwaukee, WI 53202.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. (Fr. Timothy L. Kitzke presiding). Graveside services and interment will then follow at St. James Cemetery in Kenosha. If desired, memorials in David’s name would be appreciated.

What happened to David Tully?  He was my school mate at St. Mary's and at St. Catherines?
