Interesting that Ron Kusters had a summer place at Hoeft's Resort on Crooked Lake in the Kettle Moraine and was associated with the Hoeft family.

My parents kept a camper at Hoeft's from about 1970 to 1991 or '92 when my Dad had to quit because of health issues.   My Uncle Eddie also kept a trailer there for a few years in the mid-70s.  I would spend a week each year camping with My parents after I moved to north Carilina.  having a beer with Dad at the tavern, buying 'penny candy and ice cream at thre Drive In.  Dad giving my teen daughters boat rides arounfd the lake in his 14 ft. alumacraft.

We knew Paul Hoeft when he was a teen, helping out his Dad.

The side of the lake opposite the resort is part of the State Wildlife Refuge Area and is undeveloped.  Good fishing ner the weeds on the far side of Crooked Lake.

It's kind of reminiscent of "On Golden Pond".  Beautiful sunsets,  5 hp limit on outboards.  A very quiet glacial lake.  A good place to take your autumn leaf pictures from in the State Forest on GGG.  and the Ice Age Museum.

I took my mother up there about Y2K and we toured all their Kettle Moraine hangouts one afternoon.    Lots of memories from when my kids were small.  I can still navigate that area without a map.

God bless Ron Kusters.
